Mechanistic Insights for Complementary and Integrative Whole Health Approaches in Sickle Cell Disease Pain

This special issue of Hemoglobin invites mechanistic studies and rigorous reviews examining how integrative interventions such as behavioral therapies, neuromodulation, physical activity, mindfulness-based strategies, and other whole-health approaches interact with neural, immune, and vascular pathways in sickle cell disease. By bridging biological discovery with patient-centered care models, the issue seeks to identify novel therapeutic targets, refine precision pain phenotyping, and guide the development of multidisciplinary and integrative strategies to improve whole health for individuals living with sickle cell disease.
