Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection
An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.
Recent Advances in Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery has evolved from an operation that restores sight into one expected to deliver a precisely targeted refractive result. Swept source optical biometry, femtosecond laser-assisted and image-guided techniques, refined phacoemulsification fluidics and energy modalities, ray tracing and artificial intelligence-based intraocular lens power calculation, and a widening portfolio of toric, extended depth-of-focus, and presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses have together reshaped what surgeons plan for and what patients expect.
This matters because cataracts are the leading cause of reversible blindness worldwide, and surgical volumes keep rising with aging populations. Patients now bring expectations once reserved for refractive surgery, so a small residual refractive error or an unanticipated dysphotopsia can undo an otherwise flawless procedure. New technology must also be judged against cost, learning curve, and use in the high-volume and resource-limited settings where most cataract surgery is performed. Comparative, outcome-driven evidence is needed to separate genuine progress from incremental change.
This Article Collection welcomes work across contemporary cataract surgery, including:
- Astigmatism management and toric alignment
- Presbyopia-correcting and extended depth-of-focus lenses
- Dysphotopsia and quality of vision
- Phacoemulsification platforms
- Fluidics and energy modalities
- Femtosecond laser-assisted and robotic approaches
- Intraoperative aberrometry and digital guidance
- Anterior segment imaging and artificial intelligence in surgical planning
- Ocular surface optimization and perioperative pharmacology
- Complex cataracts and complication management
- Biometry and intraocular lens power calculation in normal and post refractive eyes
- Patient safety and patient reported outcomes
In line with the scope of Clinical Ophthalmology, we welcome original research articles, reviews, clinical trial reports, protocols, and commentaries.
