Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection

An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.

Planetary Health and General Practice

In 2023 the WONCA Europe Council adopted a revised definition of general practice to include One Health, Planetary Health, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These focus areas bring light to the deep interconnectivity of human health with the health of the planet and its natural systems.

Human health depends on the stability of the natural world for clean water, a habitable climate, and defense against natural disasters. Degradation of planetary health can lead to loss of the above but also increased risk of infectious diseases and future pandemics, respiratory illness from air pollution, and soil erosion leading to crop failure and malnutrition.

It is therefore essential that healthcare providers, researchers and policy makers continue to consider the myriad ways that primary care is affected by the planets health and how it affects our patients and our communities.

This Article Collection aims to bring together original research, commentaries and editorials from the European healthcare community on the subject of planetary health and its connections with general practice/family medicine.

We welcome authors to submit research and opinion articles on planetary health and sustainable healthcare for consideration in this Article Collection.
