Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection
An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.
Climate Change, Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Health
Our environment is changing, and so are the challenges for blood pressure and cardiovascular health. Rising temperatures, heatwaves, air pollution, environmental noise, and urban living can all influence blood pressure and cardiovascular risk. At the same time, emerging contaminants such as microplastics and nanoplastics are opening new questions about their effects on vascular and renal health.
Not everyone is affected in the same way. People with hypertension, older adults, patients with chronic kidney disease, and populations living in highly exposed regions may be particularly vulnerable. Extreme heat, for example, can lead to dehydration, hypotension, and renal dysfunction, with practical implications for blood pressure monitoring and treatment. Identifying who is most at risk, and when, is becoming increasingly important for cardiovascular prevention and treatment.
This Article Collection aims to highlight new evidence on how climate and related exposures interact with hypertension and cardiovascular risk and will cover emerging challenges, from extreme weather and pollution to novel contaminants, with an emphasis on clinical relevance, population differences, and opportunities for prevention. Original research and review articles are encouraged.
