Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection
An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.
Biomass-Derived Nanomaterials for Flexible and Smart Devices
In recent years, the rapid development of wearable electronics, implantable medical devices, and human-machine interfaces has driven extensive research into flexible and stretchable electronics. Biomass-derived nanomaterials from renewable sources, such as cellulose, lignin, chitin, and alginate, have attracted particular interest due to their unique nanoarchitectures, excellent mechanical flexibility, low density, tunable surface chemistry, and inherent biodegradability. These materials can be processed into nanofibers, nanocrystals, and hydrogels, enabling diverse applications in flexible sensors, supercapacitors, triboelectric nanogenerators, organic light-emitting diodes, and catalytic systems.
Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including intrinsically low electrical conductivity, poor interfacial compatibility with conventional electrode materials, limited durability under repeated mechanical deformation, and difficulties in achieving scalable, low-cost, and reproducible fabrication. Despite these hurdles, ongoing efforts in structural engineering, conductive coating, and hybrid integration with conductive polymers or carbon nanomaterials continue to unlock new possibilities. The unique combination of renewability, flexibility, and multifunctionality positions biomass-derived nanomaterials as a promising platform for next-generation green flexible electronics, energy storage devices, and catalytic applications-exactly the focus of this Article Collection on Biomass-Derived Nanomaterials for Flexible and Smart Devices.
