Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection
An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.
Beyond Pressure: Innovation and the Future of Glaucoma Care
Glaucoma care is entering a period of remarkable change. For decades, clinicians have relied on a familiar sequence of pressure measurement, topical therapy, laser treatment and, when necessary, filtering surgery. Today, advances in imaging, artificial intelligence, digital monitoring, drug delivery, laser platforms, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery are reshaping that pathway. The opportunity is no longer simply to lower intraocular pressure, but to identify risk earlier, personalize treatment, and preserve vision with less disruption to a patient's everyday life.
This shift matters because glaucoma is a lifelong disease and the burden of care extends far beyond a single pressure reading. Treatment fatigue, adherence, access, progression despite apparently acceptable pressure, and the morbidity of traditional surgery all influence outcomes. Innovation has the potential to move glaucoma care from reactive escalation toward proactive, individualized intervention. Yet new technology also brings important questions about patient selection, durability, safety, cost, equity, training and how promising trial results translate into real-world clinical practice.
This Article Collection will bring together research and thoughtful clinical perspectives on the next generation of glaucoma care. Topics may include:
- Artificial intelligence and advanced imaging
- Biomarkers and risk prediction
- Home and remote monitoring
- Teleophthalmology
- Novel and sustained drug delivery
- Selective laser strategies
- Minimally invasive and interventional glaucoma surgery
- New implants and devices
- Precision treatment algorithms
- Patient-reported outcomes
- Health economics
- Equitable access to innovation
We welcome original research, clinical trial reports, systematic and narrative reviews, meta-analyses, commentaries, protocols, perspectives, and other article types within the journal's scope. Please note that all meta-analyses require a pre-submission check.
Submission Instructions:
