Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection

An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.

Global Perspectives and Advances in Gastrointestinal Cancers

Gastrointestinal cancers remain a major global health challenge, accounting for substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide. This Article Collection will focus on malignant diseases arising throughout the digestive system, including oesophageal, gastric, small bowel and duodenal, colorectal, hepatocellular, biliary tract, gallbladder, pancreatic, neuroendocrine, and other rare gastrointestinal tumours. Despite advances in prevention, diagnostics, and treatment, considerable regional variation persists in incidence, survival, and disease burden. Rapid progress in molecular biology, biomarker discovery, imaging, endoscopy, systemic therapy, and precision medicine is transforming the clinical management of these cancers. For gastric cancer, particular attention will be given to Helicobacter pylori as a major carcinogenic risk factor, including advances in screening, diagnostic testing, eradication therapy, antimicrobial resistance, and cancer prevention strategies. At the same time, changing demographics, lifestyle factors, obesity, viral hepatitis control, and population aging are reshaping disease patterns globally.

Gastrointestinal cancers collectively represent some of the most common and deadly malignancies worldwide, yet outcomes remain highly unequal across regions and healthcare systems. Many patients are diagnosed at advanced stages, when curative treatment is less feasible and prognosis is poor. Earlier detection through risk-based screening, improved surveillance strategies, and accessible diagnostic technologies can substantially reduce mortality. In gastric cancer, prevention through identification and eradication of Helicobacter pylori offers a unique opportunity to reduce cancer incidence at the population level. In parallel, therapeutic innovation—including targeted agents, immunotherapy, endoscopic intervention, and optimized multidisciplinary care—has created new opportunities to improve survival and quality of life. However, major challenges remain. Differences in aetiology, environmental exposure, infectious risk factors, genetics, and healthcare access require region-specific evidence rather than one-size-fits-all approaches. By bringing together international research across prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, this Article Collection aims to accelerate translation of evidence into practice and support equitable progress in gastrointestinal cancer care worldwide.

This Article Collection welcomes submissions addressing gastrointestinal cancers across the continuum of care. Topics of interest include: cancer aetiology and risk factors; molecular mechanisms and biomarkers; microbiome and inflammation-related carcinogenesis; Helicobacter pylori diagnosis, eradication therapy, antimicrobial resistance, and gastric cancer prevention; screening and early detection; endoscopic imaging and artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis; pathology and staging; prognostic models; systemic therapy including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy; endoscopic treatment outcomes; multimodal and multidisciplinary management; survivorship and quality of life; recurrence monitoring; disparities in care; and real-world evidence. Studies on neuroendocrine tumours, rare gastrointestinal cancers, and geographically distinct disease patterns are especially encouraged.

Submission Instructions:

All manuscripts submitted to this Article Collection will undergo full peer-review; the Guest Advisor will not be handling submitted articles. Please review the journal’s aims and scope and author instructions prior to submission.

Please submit your manuscript through Taylor & Francis's Submission Portal.

During the first step of the submission process (under the "Manuscript Details" heading), you will find the question "Are you submitting your paper for a specific special issue or article collection?" Click the radio button for "Yes". Next, you will be prompted to select the "Special Issue or Article Collection name" from the dropdown menu. Choose "Global Perspectives and Advances in Gastrointestinal Cancers" from the list. This will ensure that your manuscript is considered for inclusion. Please also select the Oncology section for your manuscript.

The manuscript submission deadline is 31 July 2027.
