Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection

An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.

Effective Earthquake Prediction: The Next Challenge for AI

The unprecedented, rapid development of artificial intelligence offers opportunities to significantly expand humanity's capabilities for predicting the occurrence of earthquakes, with the precision necessary to take preventive measures. The execution of the task requires the engagement of significant AI capacities. The expected results will contribute to a set of knowledge that can be applied in different situations in the future. Concern has been expressed regarding the possible destructive development of superintelligence. Focusing on complex issues can help direct the intellectual power of artificial intelligence toward constructive goals.

The rapid growth of the human population is leading to the occupation of a large portion of the land surface. A significant part of this territory is at risk of earthquake-related disasters. The way in which settlements infrastructure develops makes them extremely vulnerable to destruction. Timely earthquake warnings are needed to prevent massive damage and loss of life. Achieving this complex goal requires a comprehensive approach that utilizes all available resources. The pursuit of nearly impossible solutions is essential for the current stage of development.

The following subtopics are encouraged:

  1. Earthquake prediction theories, current limitations and expected breakthroughs
  2. Earthquake prediction algorithms and employability of artificial intelligence
  3. Anomalous variations of the geomagnetic field and the earthquake forecasting
  4. Expected development of gravimetry supporting the earthquake's predictions
  5. Other measurements related to the earthquake occurrence
  6. Fundamental limits of earthquake forecasting

Keywords:

  1. Earthquake forecasting
  2. AI perspectives
  3. Timely earthquake alerts
  4. Gravimetry
  5. Geomagnetic field variations
  6. Fault-emitted slip signals
