Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection

An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.

Innovative Nanomedicines for Pulmonary Vascular Diseases Management

Pulmonary vascular diseases (PVDs), encompassing pulmonary arterial hypertension, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and other disorders associated with pulmonary vascular dysfunction and remodeling, represent a heterogeneous group of clinically important cardiopulmonary diseases. Although advances in pharmacological interventions targeting vascular tone, inflammation, abnormal cellular proliferation, and vascular remodeling, the clinical management of PVDs remains challenging, including limited therapeutic efficacy, inadequate drug delivery and bioavailability, and the difficulty of achieving precise delivery to diseased pulmonary vasculature. Nanomedicine offers promising opportunities to address these challenges through the development of functionalized nanoscale drug delivery systems that improve the physicochemical properties of therapeutics, increase local drug availability, and support multifunctional therapeutic strategies. This Article Collection aims to showcase the latest advances in nanomedicine for PVDs, with a particular focus on innovative nanodelivery platforms, stimuli-responsive nanomaterials, biomimetic nanosystems, and their translational applications, thereby promoting the development of next-generation nanotherapeutic strategies and accelerating the translation of fundamental research into clinical practice.

The complex and heterogeneous nature of PVDs presents substantial challenges for conventional pharmacological interventions, particularly in achieving sufficient drug exposure at diseased pulmonary vascular sites while minimizing off-target effects. Nanomedicine provides a promising technological platform to address these challenges by enabling the development of tailored drug delivery systems for pulmonary vascular diseases. Nanodelivery strategies can facilitate the delivery of small-molecule drugs, nucleic acids, proteins, and combination therapeutics, while improving drug solubility, stability, and bioavailability. Besides, rationally designed nanocarriers may enhance drug accumulation at relevant pulmonary sites and enable controlled or targeted drug release, thereby providing opportunities for more precise and multifunctional therapeutic interventions. Therefore, advancing nanomedicine research in PVDs is important for developing innovative therapeutic strategies, and facilitating the translation of emerging nanotherapeutic approaches toward clinical applications.

This Article Collection focuses on fundamental research, technological innovation, and translational applications of innovative nanomedicines for the management of PVDs. It aims to showcase the latest advances at the intersection of nanomaterials, biotechnology, and pulmonary vascular disease research, while promoting the development and application of next-generation nanotherapeutic strategies. The Collection welcomes contributions covering, but not limited to, the design and development of novel nanomedicines and nanodelivery systems, biomimetic nanoplatforms, polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, nanomicelles, exosomes, and other emerging nanocarriers; stimuli-responsive nanomaterials; pulmonary-targeted and inhalation-based drug delivery technologies; controlled and combination drug delivery strategies; as well as the pharmacokinetics, biosafety, computer-aided formulation design, advanced manufacturing technologies, and clinical translation of nanomedicines. Studies addressing the pathogenesis of PVDs, emerging therapeutic targets, the mechanisms of action of nanomedicines, and their applications in precision medicine are also within the scope of this Collection. We warmly welcome Original Research articles, Reviews, Mini-reviews, and Perspective articles that advance the fundamental understanding, technological innovation, and clinical application of nanomedicine for the precision management of PVDs.
