“Artificial Intelligence in Andrology: Opportunities and Challenges”
Background
Andrological disorders affect millions of men worldwide and represent a growing public health concern, with significant implications for fertility, quality of life, and long‑term health. Male factor infertility contributes to nearly half of all cases of couple infertility, yet optimal diagnosis and treatment remain elusive. Similarly, conditions such as male sexual dysfunction, hypogonadism, and testicular cancer continue to pose diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is an emerging technology with the potential to support precision andrology by integrating heterogeneous clinical, laboratory, and imaging data into individualized diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. By leveraging large datasets, AI can improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce observer variability, predict treatment outcomes, and personalize patient care. However, the integration of AI into clinical practice is faced with multiple challenges, including clinical validation, regulatory approval, ethical concerns, data privacy, and the need for clinician training and acceptance.
This Special Issue will highlight both opportunities and challenges of AI in andrology, bridging the gap between complex biological data and practical clinical decision making.
Aim
This Special Issue aims to provide clinicians and researchers with a comprehensive understanding of the emerging role of AI in andrology, from diagnosis to tailored medical or surgical treatment. Contributions should emphasize clinical implications, helping readers understand not only what the technology can achieve but also how it may directly influence patient management and decision‑making in everyday practice.
