Benefits of Publishing in an Article Collection

An Article Collection is an opportunity for your research to reach the right audience. Bringing together the work of the global research community, Collections provide readers with a central place to find the latest research on emerging and important topics. They have been found to increase the discoverability and visibility of each article, as well as article-level citations.

Geospatial Intelligence for Agricultural Monitoring: Integrating Remote Sensing, UAVs, and Artificial Intelligence

Agriculture is facing growing challenges associated with climate variability, water scarcity, land degradation, increasing food demand, and pressure on natural resources. Addressing these challenges requires accurate and timely information to support effective management and improve resource use efficiency. Integrating information from multiple data sources allows agricultural conditions to be monitored more consistently over large areas while reducing the limitations of individual datasets. Continued advances in geospatial technologies and analytical methods are improving our ability to evaluate environmental changes, understand agricultural dynamics, and support sustainable production systems.

Agricultural monitoring is an essential component of modern crop production, providing information needed to understand crop development, environmental conditions, and the interactions between agricultural management and natural resources. Recent advances in Earth observation and geospatial technologies have greatly improved the ability to observe agricultural systems across different spatial and temporal scales. Technologies such as satellite observations, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), geographic information systems (GIS), and artificial intelligence (AI) provide complementary sources of information for assessing crop conditions, vegetation dynamics, biomass, yield variability, water availability, and other environmental factors. The integration of multi-source remote sensing data with geospatial analysis and machine learning has expanded the range of agricultural applications, enabling more detailed, consistent, and timely assessment of agricultural systems. These developments have created new opportunities for supporting agricultural research, resource management, and evidence-based decision-making across diverse production environments.

This Article Collection welcomes original research articles, review papers, and perspective articles that demonstrate how remote sensing, UAV technologies, and AI can support improved agricultural monitoring and management across diverse environments. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, Earth observation, satellite and UAV-based sensing, crop monitoring, vegetation analysis, biomass and yield estimation, crop phenotyping, machine learning, deep learning, multi-source data integration, and geospatial analytics. Contributions that integrate innovative geospatial approaches with practical agricultural applications and demonstrate scalable solutions across different agricultural systems are particularly encouraged.
