Multi-Source Ocean Remote Sensing for Coastal Climate Resilience and Marine Hazard Monitoring

This Special Issue invites original research and review articles on multi-source ocean remote sensing for coastal climate resilience and marine hazard monitoring. It is associated with the PORSEC2026 workshop and the UTM-PORSEC-USK Capacity Building Programme on Ocean Remote Sensing towards Climate Resilience.

The collection will highlight advances in satellite oceanography, field-validated coastal mapping, multi-source data integration, cloud computing, hydroacoustic and in-situ observations, UAV mapping, and machine learning approaches for marine and coastal applications.

Contributions may address, but are not limited to:

• Ocean-atmosphere interactions, oceanographic dynamics, and climate-driven extreme events
• Coastal vulnerability, shoreline change, sea-level rise, flooding, erosion, and marine hazards
• Integration of satellite, in-situ, hydroacoustic, UAV, and other geospatial data for coastal and shallow-water mapping
• Benthic habitat classification, marine ecosystem monitoring, and Marine Protected Area assessment
• Operational remote sensing frameworks for disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, and sustainable ocean governance
• Advanced image processing, artificial intelligence, and cloud-based geospatial analysis for ocean and coastal applications

Papers should demonstrate a clear contribution to remote sensing science and applications. Studies that do not significantly use remote sensing, satellite oceanography, or geospatial methods, or that focus only on terrestrial or inland environments without clear coastal or marine relevance, are outside the scope.

Submission Instructions

Manuscripts should be submitted through the International Journal of Remote Sensing online submission system.

When you submit your paper in the online submission system, please indicate that it is for a special issue and select  “PORSEC 2026” from the drop-down menu.

The deadline for full manuscript submission is 31 January 2027. No separate abstract submission stage is required.

Original research articles and review papers are welcome. All submissions must follow the journal’s Instructions for Authors and will undergo the standard IJRS peer-review process.

Accepted papers will proceed to production after final acceptance. The Special Issue is expected to be published in late 2027.

If you have any difficulties submitting your paper, please contact IJRS-Administrator@dundee.ac.uk.
